Geoffrey Booth was today recognised for his contributions to the development of international standards for the safety of household and similar electrical appliances. He was presented the IEC 1906 Award at Standards Australia in appreciation of his valuable and sustained contribution in his role as a member of TC61, in which he is called to help solve themany and sometimes complicated inquiries on the 60335 series of standards.
Created in 2004 by the IEC Executive Committee, the 1906 Award commemorates the IEC's year of foundation and honours IEC experts around the world whose work is fundamental to the IEC.
The Award also recognizes exceptional and recent achievement related to the activities of the IEC and which contributes in a significant way to advancing the work of the Commission.

Geoffrey Booth, Managing Director of Black & White Engineering Solutions Pty Limited (BWES) has recently returned from representing Australian Industry Group at the 149th Meeting of the EL-002 committee in Wellington, New Zealand. EL-002 is a joint Australian and New Zealand Standards committee that prepares Standards for the safety of electrical equipment, appliances, and small power transformers, while in use with people, livestock, and the environment. EL-002 committee has 24 Australian and 5 New Zealand members, and meets twice-yearly in Australia or New Zealand, by rotation.
Geoffrey Booth, Managing Director of Black & White Engineering Solutions Pty Limited (BWES) has today announced that Lloyd Knipe will re-join the company as Managing Director- Operations & Supply Chain on 1st January 2012, after completion of his overseas tenure.

As part of this programme, Elaine will be attending a workshop in Melbourne between the 23rd and 26th October where she will have the opportunity to observe an IEC technical meeting, a part of the Standardization Management Board (SMB) meeting and a part of the Conformity Assessment Board (CAB) meeting. She will also be attending interactive workshops which will help her to enhance her understanding of standard, their application and development. Elaine's participation in this programme complements her role in standards committee CS-106- Consumers Product Management Systems, on which she represents Australian Industry Group. Elaine was recently nominated to represent this committee at a meeting in San Francisco of its mirror groups ISO PC 243 (Consumer Product Safety: A Practical Guide for Suppliers) and ISO PC 240- Guidance standard on Consumer product recall and corrective action. This will take place between the 19th and 23rd September.

Standards New Zealand recently awarded the EL-002 Committee, upon which Geoffrey Booth sits, their Committee of the Year Award.
As Debbie Chin, Chief Executive of Standards New Zealand explains, 'the Standards EL-002 develops are used by regulators, manufacturers and testing houses to ensure that electrical appliances and equipment released for sale on both sides of the Tasman are safe and aligned with international standards'.
